Dr. Hjalti Skulason

Qnity
​Optical Material Platform Leader


Hjalti Skulason is a technical leader with extensive experience in materials development, organic electronics, and process engineering, currently serving as Optical Material Platform Leader at Qnity in Wilmington, Delaware. In this role, he focuses on identifying new product opportunities, assessing technical feasibility, and advancing materials for applications in displays and optical communications.

Before joining Qnity, Skulason spent many years at DuPont in a range of leadership roles across Emerging Technologies and Industrial Solutions. He managed multidisciplinary teams of chemists, engineers, and scientists, supporting projects from early research through commercialization. His experience includes leading process optimization efforts that significantly reduced manufacturing costs and environmental impact, as well as supporting the development of OLED materials that have been used in commercial displays. He has also been involved in evaluating new business opportunities and supporting strategic initiatives, including the transfer and divestment of major business assets.

He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Iceland. He is an inventor on more than 15 patent applications and has authored several scientific publications.
